The Arizona Department of Environmental quality has issued a pollution watch for Thursday April 28, 2011. This involves being aware of the pollution you put into the air such as waiting in a drive-thru line, idling a car in a parking lot or driveway, unplugging appliances that are not being used, and putting your outside lights on a timer. It is also stated that a “Health Watch” is when pollution levels are at a dangerous level. It is recommended that people do not over exert themselves in outdoor activities during a Health Watch.
I have never heard of a pollution watch before and found it interesting that Arizona has issued this watch when I'm sure there are much worse states and cities out there that pollute. I think this is something all American's can do and not just on a certain day that has been set-aside for it. I always feel bad when I get home at 3pm or later and see that I've left my outside light on all day (mostly because it's wasting the bulb.) Also when I leave the car running not only am I polluting the air I’m wasting gas, and with the prices these days I don’t want to waste a single penny.
I think pollution is something all cities and towns can look into and make sure they are not wasting energy and resources. I never thought about it but wasting energy can be a form of pollution as well.
